BAMAHU, UWR – Residents of Bamahu in the Wa Municipality were left in shock on Friday morning after cleaners at the SEM-B Hotel discovered the body of a newborn baby wrapped in a black polythene bag.
The infant, identified as male, was found while workers were clearing refuse behind the hotel premises. According to eyewitnesses, the body was already showing early signs of decomposition.
Madam Fabiana, a cleaner at the hotel who made the discovery, described the moment as devastating.
“While I was gathering the rubbish to burn, I noticed a very heavy polythene bag. I could not push it into the fire, so I tore part of it. To my shock, I saw legs and I called my colleagues,” she told our reporter.
The Assembly Member for the Bamahu Electoral Area, Hon. Adams Yahaya Jiga, described the incident as unfortunate and unprecedented in the community.
“This is very unfortunate. To my knowledge, nothing like this has ever occurred in this community. We are all saddened and we demand a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice,” he said.
Management of the hotel has since reported the matter to the Ghana Police Service. Officers were dispatched to the scene to take custody of the body and commence investigations.
Police are yet to release further details, but say inquiries are ongoing.
Meanwhile, community leaders are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and report to the police.
