Wa, Upper West Region — The Wa Municipal Assembly has renewed its commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health as hundreds of residents, institutions, and volunteers participated in the 13th edition of the Mayor’s Monthly Clean-Up Exercise, popularly known as “Operation Clean Your Frontage.”

The event, held on Saturday to coincide with National Sanitation Day, saw a large turnout of Assembly staff, Assembly Members, security personnel, market women, youth groups, Zoomlion Ghana Limited workers, government institutions, and community volunteers working together to clean different parts of the municipality.

Leading the effort, the Municipal Chief Executive for Wa, Hon. Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwana, emphasized that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to sustain the National Sanitation Day campaign inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama. He reiterated that the clean-up activity has become a regular event on the municipality’s calendar and will continue to occur on the first Saturday of each month.

According to the MCE, the Assembly is committed to encouraging a culture of environmental responsibility among residents while promoting cleaner and healthier communities. He mentioned that a panel of judges has been formed to evaluate sanitation standards across electoral areas, with awards planned for the cleanest communities to motivate residents to keep their surroundings tidy.

As part of the activity, participating groups were assigned to clean key public locations, including the Upper West Regional Hospital and its surroundings, the Municipal Hospital, and the Regional Coordinating Council blocks.

“A clean environment is essential for healthy living. Through this activity, we reaffirm our commitment to making our communities cleaner, healthier, and more livable,” Hon. Danwana said.

He praised the dedication and sacrifices of volunteers who dedicated their time to the effort and called on all residents to actively participate in future clean-up activities. He stressed that sanitation is a shared responsibility that requires the collective effort of government agencies, community leaders, and citizens.

The Mayor also expressed thanks to all stakeholders for their enthusiasm, patriotism, and dedication to the development of Wa, noting that ongoing community involvement is vital to creating a cleaner and more attractive municipality.

The ongoing success of the MCE Monthly Clean-Up Exercise reflects the rising determination of the Wa Municipal Assembly to address sanitation issues and build a healthier environment for current and future generations.
