Today, the Upper West Regional Minister Hon Charles Lwanga Puozuing Esq., the Director of Ghana Airports, Mr Kwadwo Abrefa Sarkodie, I, the Wa Airport Management Committee and other officials from the Ghana Airport Company had a stakeholder engagement on the Wa airport wildlife hazard management.

The session focused on risks posed by birds, mammals, and other wildlife near airport facilities that can interfere with aircraft operations. Officials stressed that effective management requires coordinated action between airport authorities, local assemblies, environmental agencies, and communities.

Participants discussed practical measures such as habitat management, waste control, and community sensitisation to reduce wildlife attraction around runways. Inter‑agency cooperation was highlighted as essential for compliance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards and Ghana Civil Aviation Authority regulations.

Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is implementing wildlife hazard management programs across its regional airports as part of safety and certification processes.

The engagement aimed to build consensus on practical steps and clarify roles for ongoing wildlife hazard management in the Upper West Region. Unaddressed wildlife strikes can damage aircraft and endanger passengers and crew, making such programs a standard part of airport certification worldwide.
