Wa, Upper West Region — May 3, 2026
The Wa Central Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Famina, has clarified the party’s position on donations intended to support branch executives with nomination forms and dues, following public debate and reports by online platform Tuurosung.com.
The clarification comes amid concerns over alleged misinformation regarding how such financial support should be handled during the party’s ongoing branch electoral process.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman’s office, the Constituency Executive Committee has resolved that no member of the constituency executive body will directly receive, manage, or disburse funds from donors for the payment of forms or dues. The directive, the statement explained, is aimed at preserving the integrity, transparency, and independence of the internal electoral process.
Chairman Famina disclosed that he was recently contacted by a philanthropist, Alhaji Alanky, who offered to fully cover the cost of nomination forms and dues for branch executives. However, the Chairman declined to personally accept the funds, indicating that the matter required consultation with the Executive Committee.
Subsequently, an emergency meeting held on April 29, 2026, led to a unanimous decision outlining clear guidelines for handling such donations.
The Committee resolved that while donors are welcome to support branch executives, such assistance must not pass through constituency executives.
Instead, donors are encouraged to channel their contributions directly to the intended beneficiaries at the branch level, through a trusted intermediary of their choice, or via the Constituency Elections Director, who is mandated to oversee the electoral process.
The arrangement was communicated to Alhaji Alanky, who accepted the directive and has since engaged directly with the Elections Directorate. The statement emphasized that no constituency executive is involved in or aware of the amounts being disbursed
The Chairman also addressed a separate incident involving a GH¢40,000 donation from Alhaji Gbangu. According to the statement, a representative of the donor visited the constituency office on April 30 with the intention of handing over the funds.
In line with the Committee’s earlier decision, the Chairman declined to accept the money and advised that it be channeled through appropriate means—either directly to beneficiaries, via a third party, or through the Elections Director.
The Committee noted that the policy is designed to ensure fairness, particularly as multiple donors may express interest in supporting different branches. It further stressed that no branch executive would be penalized or given preferential treatment for receiving legitimate support directly from donors.
Chairman Famina welcomed continued support for grassroots party structures but urged donors to adhere strictly to the approved channels to avoid compromising the credibility of the electoral process.
He reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to transparency, unity, and fairness, stating that his refusal to personally accept donations should not be misconstrued as disrespect but rather as compliance with a collectively agreed decision.
“The Constituency Executive Committee remains committed to protecting the integrity of our internal elections,” the statement conclude
