The Ga Sub-district Health Centre has received a major boost with the commissioning of a newly constructed two-unit nurses’ accommodation, a project financed through community contributions with support from the Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu.

While the development marks a step forward in improving staff welfare, health officials say critical gaps in medical equipment continue to hinder effective healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the In-charge of the facility, Biiso Ansonnama Isaiah, expressed concern over the lack of essential tools needed for patient care. He described the situation as a significant challenge, noting that basic items such as blood pressure apparatus, adult and child weighing scales, glucometers, and thermometers are either insufficient or completely unavailable.
According to him, the facility’s limited capacity is another pressing concern, with only two beds available to cater for patients across the entire sub-district. He added that the absence of fans in critical areas including the patient ward and drug storeroom has made conditions uncomfortable for both patients and healthcare workers.
The In-charge also highlighted issues with medicine storage, warning that the current arrangement could affect the quality of drugs administered. He explained that the storage space is inadequate, forcing medicines to be kept in cartons under unsuitable conditions. This, he cautioned, may compromise the strength and effectiveness of the drugs, ultimately posing a risk to patient treatment outcomes.

In response to these challenges, the Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, Peter Lanchene Toobu, stepped in with a donation of essential medical supplies to support the facility.

The items donated include two thermometers, two glucometers, one adult weighing scale, a children’s weighing scale, two blood pressure apparatus, and three ceiling fans.

The intervention is expected to provide immediate relief, improve patient care, and ease the burden on the health centre as authorities work toward more sustainable, long-term solutions.
