Wa, Upper West Region — The Salih Cares Foundation has donated items valued at GH¢100,000 to the Bahass Foundation Mental Home and Rehabilitation Center in a significant gesture aimed at supporting mental health care and rehabilitation services in the Upper West Region.

The donation, led by the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the foundation, Tenny Salih Basintale, forms part of the organization’s broader commitment to social responsibility and community support.

Addressing management and residents during the presentation in Wa, Mrs. Basintale expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to engage directly with beneficiaries. She emphasized that her visit was not solely about making a donation, but also about connecting with the people and gaining a deeper understanding of their living conditions.

According to her, the decision to support the facility was influenced by a prior visit by her husband, Hon. Malik Basintale, whose experience and documentation of the center’s conditions deeply moved her.

“After watching the videos and images he shared from this place, I was brought to tears,” she noted. “It touched me deeply and inspired me to take action.”

Mrs. Basintale revealed that although she had initially planned to mark her birthday by supporting an orphanage in Accra, she reconsidered her decision, guided by the principle that charity begins at home. As a proud Northerner, she chose to prioritize support for a facility within the northern part of the country.

She explained that the donation was made on behalf of both her husband and the foundation, underscoring their shared commitment to improving lives and supporting vulnerable populations.

Beyond the immediate donation, Mrs. Basintale assured management of the foundation’s continued support, indicating plans to help secure a more suitable and improved facility for the residents.

She further expressed hope that the gesture would inspire individuals, corporate bodies, and other philanthropic organizations to extend support to the center and similar institutions.

“I believe this is a call to others to also come on board and support the important work being done here,” she added.

Mrs. Basintale commended the management and caregivers of the Bahass Foundation for their dedication and compassion in caring for persons with mental health conditions, acknowledging their sacrifices and praying for divine blessings upon their efforts.

Management of the Bahass Foundation, in response, expressed profound appreciation to the Salih Cares Foundation for the timely intervention, noting that the donation would significantly enhance their capacity to provide care and improve the welfare of residents.

The donation highlights the growing role of private philanthropy in complementing efforts to address mental health challenges in Ghana, particularly in underserved regions.
