Approximately 164 Muslim pilgrims from Wa have commenced their journey to Tamale as part of preparations for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Organized by Habib Transport, the initial batch departed ahead of their scheduled flight, marking a crucial step in the pilgrimage process.

Muhammad Yahaya, Secretary of Habib Transport, acknowledged the successful coordination of the journey while highlighting ongoing infrastructural challenges. “The journey from Wa to Tamale remains a major hurdle,” Yahaya stated. “We urge the government to consider establishing an airport in Wa to ease the logistical burden on pilgrims and facilitate smoother travel arrangements.”

Pilgrims, including Siha Jahata, expressed gratitude for the organizational efforts but emphasized the need for improved facilities at the departure point. Jahata pointed out that pilgrims currently endure harsh weather conditions while waiting without adequate shelter and called for the establishment of designated waiting areas with canopies to ensure their comfort and safety.

Another pilgrim, Muhammed Amin, underscored the importance of direct flights from Wa to reduce travel stress. He also appealed for increased security personnel and healthcare support, including nurses, to ensure the well-being of pilgrims throughout the process.

The first batch is scheduled to depart from Tamale tomorrow morning, with subsequent groups expected to follow in the coming days. This journey underscores both the community’s dedication to fulfilling their religious obligations and the pressing need for infrastructural development to support efficient pilgrimage travel.
